COMM 3070: 

Public Communication of Science & Technology

COMM 3070 examines the role of science and technology in society from a communication perspective. Particular attention is paid to this dynamic in the arts, government and advertising. We will examine an array of theoretical issues and case studies in this area, with a focus on German culture and history. A reoccurring theme will be automotive sciences and technologies as related to companies operating in Germany. 

COMM 3550: 

Principles of Public Relations

Comm 3550 is a course in which “students learn the principles, theories, process, history, and contexts of public relations.” For this course, we will examine principles and practices of public relation departments of different companies.The will include topics such as media relations, crisis management, marketing, planning and publicity for special events, and institutional advertising – all in the context of international business from a German-American perspective.

Course Work

A majority of the class work done is through posting Tumblr blog posts about the excursions done and connecting it to class and the readings. Your Tumblr is also a fun and easy way for your friends and family to keep up with what you're doing while you're abroad!

Each week will consist of a total of 6 blog posts. Two due Tuesday, two due Thursday, and two due Sunday; One for Ms. Matthey, the other for Dr. Pyle. These posts consist of prompts that reflect back on places you visit while also including reflections on the readings. 

​

The curriculum also include a midterm and a final for each class. They would be either a paper, project, or exam for the midterm and the final.
